Weeks before the governor’s announcement, Hinojosa called for a statewide pause on new data center construction until a special session of the Texas Legislature can be convened to address the matter. However, data center opponents argue the massive computing facilities’ large-scale consumption of power and water strains finite resources and endangers the state’s stand-alone power grid. The three San Antonio council members who signed the memo plan to hold a press conference this Friday.
