David Douglas, 54, of Hull, deliberately set off security alarms at Fulford Road Police Station after his arrest in York, York Magistrates' Court heard.
He attended court via a video link to HMP Humber and pleaded guilty to breaching the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 by his behaviour at Fulford Road Police Station.
York magistrates heard that he set off the security alarms on January 11.
On the same day, Douglas also stole goods worth £220 from Sports Direct in Coney Street, York.
He pleaded guilty to both charges and the court imposed a six-month conditional discharge for each offence as he was already serving a prison sentence for offences committed in Hull.
