A senior Indian-origin heart surgeon, previously jailed for s*xually assaulting junior colleagues at a National Health Service (NHS) hospital in northern England, has been formally struck off the UK medical register. Following a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing, Bose was suspended and will officially face erasure from the General Medical Council (GMC) register once the appeal period concludes. Tribunal Findings and Disciplinary ActionThe MPTS determined that Bose’s convictions were "fundamentally incompatible" with continued registration as a medical professional. "This person [Dr Amal Krishna Bose] has been suspended from the Medical Register and may not practise as a doctor in the UK," the GMC registry states, adding that the registrant will be erased pending the appeal period. Bose had denied the charges throughout the legal proceedings, attempting to dismiss his actions as "flirting" and routine "workplace banter".
