The Mid-West Hospital Campaign has revealed that senior HSE officials were sent to conduct an unannounced visit of emergency services at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) on Friday after an “unprecedented increase” in attendances resulted in 1,350 patients coming to the hospital over four-days. It is believed that Colm Henry, the HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer and Grace Rothwell, National Director Access and Integration were part of the delegation of the senior HSE Ireland officials who travelled to Limerick during the trolly surge. According to the INMO Trolley Watch, there were 130 patients on trolleys in UHL on Tuesday, which dropped to 113 on Wednesday. Chronic overcrowding is now becoming normal at UHL, when this shouldn’t be the case,” she said.
