A Paterson man has been charged with murder in a fatal New Year’s Day shooting that left one man dead and another injured, authorities said Thursday. Lawrence is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. A 36-year-old Paterson man was pronounced dead at the hospital. A 55-year-old Paterson man was treated for his injuries and later released. The conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder charges each carry potential prison terms of 10 to 20 years.
