Strut Records has announced plans for a new compilation of Nigerian music from the 1980s. The new collection, ‘Nigeria 80’, will collect together 13 tracks of highlife, Afrobeat, reggae, juju and fusion from various local independent labels. Compiled by Duncan Brooker—who has been compiling records for Strut for years, including spotlights ranging from Soweto to cassette culture—and follows the label’s ‘Nigeria 70’ compilation series. ‘Nigeria 80’ will be released digitally on 11th September. One of the tracks from the compilation, ‘We Have Got It’ by Mansour Shuabi, has already been shared.
