"The commission received a report alleging embezzlement of public funds amounting to Ksh1,569,582,338.20 by officials at the National Treasury. More than Ksh1.56 billion was deposited into the account, with Ksh784.7 million allegedly wired to 23 companies and another Ksh768.2 million withdrawn in cash. The EACC has recommended charges against Treasury officials and company proprietors and is awaiting the DPP's decision. Although the EACC recommended charges against senior county officials and company directors, the DPP returned the file in July for further investigations. The EACC alleges county officials secretly retained interests in the company that won the tenders and used forged procurement documents to obtain payments.
