Things can’t get worse? In its Nov. 7, 2024, issue (“Trump voters look forward”), the Monitor featured Trump voters Jonathan Paquette and Angela Kontoes and their hopes for the newly re-elected president. Mr. Paquette said that “[high prices] can’t get much worse.” Thanks in part to Trump’s elimination of the screwworm prevention program, a pound of ground beef costs about $8.19 compared to $7.11 then. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Mr. Paquette will be purchasing that home for his large family anytime soon.
