In a move certain to face customer backlash, Jetstar will commence charging passengers to place carry-on bags in overhead lockers on flights.
While the 7kg weight limit for carry-on baggage will be scrapped in favour of size limits, passengers whose bags won’t fit beneath the seat in front will be hit with a Priority Carry-on fee to use the overhead cabin lockers.
Passengers will need to purchase a Priority Carry-on option if they a want to bring a second or larger cabin bag measuring up to 56cm by 36cm by 23cm.
“We know weighing carry-on bags at the gate can be frustrating for our customers and for our crew,” says Stephanie Tully, CEO, Jetstar.
With the likelihood of increased fees for most passengers, it remains to be seen if Jetstar customers will agree with the airline’s spin on the new system.
