Are hotels in Ghana really more expensive than those in the rest of West Africa? Few topics generate as much debate within Ghana’s tourism and hospitality industry as the claim that hotels in Ghana are significantly more expensive than those in neighboring West African countries. Hotel pricing is fundamentally driven by the cost of developing, operating and maintaining hospitality facilities. At the same time, the perception that hotels across Ghana are uniformly expensive does not accurately reflect the diversity of the market. Ultimately, the conversation should shift from asking whether hotels in Ghana are expensive to asking whether the country’s business environment enables hotels to operate efficiently and competitively.
