ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Five years after Gabby Petito’s disappearance captivated the nation, her mother is bringing the lessons she’s learned to Albuquerque in hopes of helping other families navigating tragedy.
They’ve worked to help other families through the Gabby Petito Foundation, which Schmidt co-founded.
We also work directly with families with missing loved ones.”
He said the conference helps families understand what steps to take, who to talk to and how to advocate for their loved ones.
Schmidt also said she recognizes that in a state like ours, many families, particularly Indigenous families, may feel they will never receive the attention Petito’s case received.
