Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has shed light on the origin of his rift with his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, revealing that their fallout stemmed from his refusal to resign from government alongside the former Deputy President. Speaking in Meru County on Thursday, August 6, Kindiki stated that despite maintaining mutual respect with Gachagua during their time in office, their relationship deteriorated after Gachagua urged him to step down following a fallout with President William Ruto. “I was the Interior CS, yet I never looked down upon Gachagua when he was the Deputy President. Welcoming the recent calls for peace and mutual respect among leaders from the Mount Kenya region, the Deputy President declared that he would refrain from verbally attacking Gachagua. His remarks came shortly after Gachagua instructed his political allies to tone down attacks targeted at the Deputy President, arguing that Kindiki was already dealing with enough pressure within the government and did not need further persecution.
