Room for improvement: student rental demand fails to make the grade
['Attila Leitner']
The Budapest Times
The start of the season is more subdued at the national level, yet in several major university cities demand growth is stronger than last year, and in some locations even stronger than in 2024.
This indicates that student demand has not disappeared, but is appearing in a far more concentrated way in those cities and districts that have larger universities and fewer adequately priced rental properties on offer.
The largest relative jump was recorded in Dunaújváros, where daily average interest in rental properties rose by 85 percent from an extremely low base.
László Balogh also noted in the statement that in the first week after the announcement of admission score thresholds, rental prices had barely changed in any meaningful way.
By contrast, the median rental price was 200,000 forints in the 19th district and 210,000 forints in the 21st district.
