Star Wars is the third highest-grossing film franchise of all time, with a total of $10.7 billion hauled globally across its four spin-offs and three trilogies. As the quintessential definition of a sweeping saga, Star Wars' expansive lore has spawned books, TV shows, theme parks, and video games. All nine mainline films were commercially successful, especially Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, which grossed a total of $905.5 million against its $113 million budget. Fans have warmed up to the Star Wars prequel trilogy over the years, but the films were divisive, to say the least, when they were released. George Lucas did warn audiences (and the diehard fans) that the prequels would change their perspective on the original trilogy.
