The wind turbine will be installed on a donation basis by Mumbai-based Vish Wind Infrastrukture LLP, which will bear the entire cost of supplying, installing, commissioning, operating and maintaining the facility for its full 25-year lifespan. The company has also committed to providing the electricity generated by the turbine free of cost for TTD’s captive use. The proposed 800 kw wind turbine will be installed at the GNC Nursery near the 33/11 kv substation in Tirumala. Its existing wind energy installations generate nearly 100 lakh units annually, while the balance 500 lakh units is sourced from APSPDCL. TTD already operates nine wind turbine generators of different capacities at Tirumala as part of its renewable energy programme.
