FARGO — Fundraising efforts are underway for a group of broadcast volunteers who are trying to save the radio station they worked for after the owner died last year.
Ken Bartz founded 89.1 KKNZ and operated the airwaves for the last 14 years until heart complications led to his death in June 2025.
ADVERTISEMENTPioneer Public Broadcasting is looking to raise $50,000 by Aug. 31 to keep the station afloat.
The small group of volunteers has kept a 24/7 livestream active since Ken's death, but fundraiser organizers are calling on the community to prevent the station from being lost forever.
"After he passed, you know, we discussed things, and we were like, 'Well, is this pretty much it?'
