On this day in 1926, Grand Forks golfer Ray Anderson won the North Dakota amateur golf championship by defeating Fargo's R. W. Pote in a dramatic 38-hole match at Fargo Country Club.
A. PurcellRay Anderson, brilliant 21-year-old golfer from Grand Forks, won the amateur championship of North Dakota Friday on the Fargo Country Club course.
The youngster defeated R. W. Pote of Fargo on the 38th green of the most gruelling championship battle recorded in the annals of the North Dakota Golf association.
Anderson, calm as could be, spent his tee shot on the 38th squarely on the green.
He shot two holes on the upper nine one over par, and he shot four holes on the lower nine in one over par.
