Cockermouth Town Council has appealed to members of the public to donate bikes, which will be used for 'colourful displays' ahead of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women's race, which will come to the town this month. In a statement on social media, Cockermouth Town Council said: "We're looking for donations of old bicycles to help decorate our town for the Tour of Britain. "They don't need to be in working order or even in good condition, as they'll be spray-painted and transformed into colourful displays for the event. "If you have an old bike you'd be happy to donate, we'd love to hear from you. The 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women's race, which organisers say will be the longest in the event's history, will cover 635.8 km over five stages and begin and end in Cockermouth on Wednesday, August 19.
