The roadworks have affected businesses including The Robin Hood Inn and Tearoom in Smithfield, near Longtown, which has reported a steep decline in customer numbers and empty tables during normally busy periods.
A Cumberland Council spokesperson said: "We would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience while these roadworks are carried out.
"Cumberland Council, along with its contractors, works closely with local businesses throughout road improvement schemes to help ensure customers are aware that businesses remain open as usual.
