Brian Wernham, councillor for Stanwix Urban, has expressed concern about what Cumberland Council had called 'essential footway improvement works' on Etterby Street. This follows the felling of what Cllr Wernham called 'mature' trees on Monday, June 22 that he states happened with no forewarning. One concern that Cllr Wernham raised was the threat posed to residents of the street – particularly elderly people leaving their properties – by speeding electric scooters encouraged by the freshly-laid tarmac. He said: “People with electric scooters tend to be enjoying the smooth surface. A view down Etterby Street.
