West Virginia (WOAY) Visitors to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve should plan accordingly, as the Rend Trail is now closed for major improvements. The 3.2-mile trail in the Thurmond-Minden area will be closed for approximately 16 months while crews complete upgrades. The project includes a new parking area, restroom, picnic area, repairs to five historic railroad trestles, and a full trail rehabilitation. An accessible ramp will also replace a stairway, creating the park’s only fully accessible earthen-surface trail. Visitors are encouraged to check the park’s website for updates during construction.
