KALISPELL — The Kalispell City Council voted Monday to raise the salaries of both council members and the mayor for the first time in nearly 30 years. Supporters of the raise, including Councilor Wes Walker, argued that without higher pay, only those who could financially afford to serve would run for council. Councilors Sid Daoud and Sam Nunnally voted against the raise. Daoud offered an amendment to make the council an unpaid position, and Nunnally pushed for an independent compensation board to set pay.
