The question of what God looks like is a natural one to ask, and the Bible has plenty of answers for us. Although abstraction has its place (even Jesus said, “God is spirit”), let’s face it—it’s hard to relate to an invisible God. Moses is described as speaking with God “face to face,” and his own face shines afterward as proof (Exod. What we really want is to know that God is beautiful, that God is glorious, that God is present. The breath of God still breathes in us, the feet of God still walk with us, the voice of God still speaks to us, the face of God still shines on us.
