The federal government has reappointed National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President and Chief Executive Officer Rehmat Ali Hasnie for an additional two weeks, extending his tenure until a new chief executive is appointed. According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, Hasnie’s reappointment will take effect from August 7, 2026, and will remain valid for two weeks or until the new President and CEO assumes office, whichever comes first. The extension was made under the powers granted by the Banks (Nationalization) Act, 1974. Rehmat Ali Hasnie was appointed President and CEO of the National Bank of Pakistan in August 2023 after serving as Acting President since May 2022. He has been with NBP since 2010 and previously led the bank’s investment banking, corporate banking, and priority sector lending businesses.
