If there’s one footwear trend that has defined this summer, it’s the reign of the flip-flop. Over the course of this long hot summer, Londoners seem to have mistaken their typically temperate hometown for Sydney or Santa Monica, pounding pigeon poo-flecked pavements and even the Tube in the scantiest of sandals. Across the North Sea in Copenhagen, where the city’s biannual fashion week is currently underway, the flip-flop’s vice-like grip on the fashion set is equally strong. Now, that may sound like the stuff of a foot fetishist’s fantasy – especially when you clock the shoe’s big-toe shield construction, nudging it into toe shoe territory – but they are very much real. Since then, it’s been spotted on the trot about town – namely on the feet of Scandi it-girl Emili Sindlev and Brazilian model and influencer Livia Nunes.
