'Major power failure' at Manchester Piccadilly brings North West rail to a standstill
['Ewan Wishart']

National Rail has warned of "major disruption" across Greater Manchester, the Midlands and the wider North West, with problems expected to continue until the end of the day.
A failure of the electricity supply at a communications centre has blocked lines through Manchester Piccadilly, meaning trains cannot run safely.
Northern says all of its services in the North West are affected, with no trains or replacement buses operating and "do not travel" advice in force.
Services to and from Manchester Airport, Liverpool and Sheffield are also being heavily disrupted.
Transport for Wales has reported delays of up to 60 minutes and cancellations between Liverpool Lime Street and Chester and at Manchester Piccadilly, and has organised replacement buses between Liverpool and Chester and between Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Piccadilly.
