The cycle hub is designed with Falco Ltd and would be positioned on existing hardstanding opposite the current cycle parking area, avoiding disruption to an underground low-voltage cable.
The overall site area is around 37.8 square metres and increase cycle parking from six to seven spaces.
The design includes a reinforced glass enclosure to keep views of the historic building unobstructed, a black powder-coated steel frame that matches existing heritage metalwork, and a clear polycarbonate roof for weather protection.
A Heritage Statement describes Barrow Town Hall as a "late-19th-century Gothic Revival civic landmark" of regional significance, known for its clock tower, ornate detailing, and setting.
The statement concludes the cycle hub is designed to cause "no harm or at most less than substantial harm" to the heritage asset.
