Sheila Woodward, from Barrow, died at the age of 69 at Furness General Hospital on January 30, 2026.
Ms McDermott explained that, following a scan in December 2025, Mrs Woodward was told that there were tumours in her lungs.
"But unfortunately this did not happen because Sheila died minutes after the operation [bronchoscopy]."
Professor Bari explained that, in the immediate aftermath of the bronchoscopy, Mrs Woodward was able to sit up and was conscious.
Mrs Woodward died at 4.38pm with Dr Barnaby Page outlining that the likely cause of arrest was 'significant haemorrhage'.
