With heavy restrictions on the use of fireworks in the nation’s capital, Food Basics has joined with Capital’s Diwali Mela for a unique celebration of the festival of lights. While other municipalities like Mississauga and Guelph include Diwali in the days when fireworks are permitted, Ottawa has yet to make this inclusion. As the South Asian population continues to grow in Ottawa, for the second year in a row, Food Basics will keep the spirit of Diwali shining bright. “Food Basics recognizes the important role that community celebrations play in fostering connection and belonging,” Hardeep Kharaud, Senior Vice President of Food Basics, said in a press release. “This Diwali, we are proud to help Ontarians shine a light in contributing to these meaningful traditions alive.”The celebration will also include cultural performances as well as family-friendly entertainment and activities.
