A spokesperson for Hereford Fire Station said the local farming community had lent a helping hand in recent weeks in a number of fire in the open incidents, working alongside crews to bring the blazes under control. The spokesperson thanked the farmers who assisted with creating fire breaks with machinery and providing extra water with bowsers. Phil Gorringe, who farms the land, praised both the fire service and the farmers who rallied to help. Homes and businesses in the surrounding area were advised to keep all windows and doors closed due to smoke. Residents in Lyonshall, Kington, and Mortimers Cross also reported seeing flames and thick smoke rising high into the night sky.
