Alerted by the noise, Mr Prosser, who had been in bed, attempted to flee, jumping out of a window with his clothes in hand. Managing to escape, Mr Prosser ran towards the Garn Farmhouse, about half a mile away. A medical examination revealed Mr Prosser had died from syncope, brought on by exhaustion, cold, and fright. He attributed their actions to being in a drunken frenzy, and stated he did not believe they had intended to kill Mr Prosser. William Davies and Walter Griffiths were sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.
