The joint owners of a greyhound have been slapped with a hefty fine after the dog tested positive for a banned substance after a race in Lifford. Brian Maguire of Follum Big, Co Fermanagh and John J McManus of Clones, Co Monaghan were each fined €1,000 by the Greyhound Racing Control Committee. Laboratory analysis of a urine sample taken from their greyhound, El Nido, after racing in Lifford returned an adverse analytical finding for Chlorpromazine Sulpoxide. Maguire and McManus, the joint registered owners of the greyhound, were not present for the Greyhound Racing Control Committee meeting. The Greyhound Racing Control Committee took particular notice and were “extremely disappointed” that neither owner attended the hearing.
