This morning, a large crowd assembled in Valletta to express their opposition to the government’s proposed planning legislation, rallying under the slogan “Justice for Our Land: Kill the Bills!”The march set off from the Law Courts, proceeded down Republic Street to the Triton Fountain, and culminated at Castille Square outside the Prime Minister’s offices, where speakers addressed the gathering.
Representing more than 70 organisations, protesters voiced fears that the reforms could wreak havoc on communities across Malta and Gozo.
They demanded the bills’ withdrawal and condemned what they characterised as a lack of genuine public consultation.
Speakers cited concerns over rampant development, the erosion of green and public spaces, and the undue sway of powerful developers.
Many described the proposed laws as a “developers’ wishlist,” accusing the government of favouring private interests at the expense of community welfare.
