Nigeria’s VP Shettima Begins Two-Week Leave, First Since Taking Office in 2023

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his first break from official duties since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, announced the leave in a statement issued on Thursday.
The Vice President has represented Tinubu at regional and international meetings involving economic integration, peace and security, climate policy, investment and sustainable development.
Nkwocha said Shettima remained committed to supporting the administration’s work and would return to official duties at the end of the leave.
The statement said the Vice President would resume work after two weeks with “renewed energy and dedication to the service of the nation”.
