Florence “Flo” Anthony, a pioneering entertainment journalist who spent decades covering Black celebrity culture, has died. Anthony passed away on Thursday, Aug. 6, Jack Hirsch, the biographer for her husband, boxing legend Michael Spinks, told the New York Amsterdam News. The outlet reported Anthony had been battling cancer. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Anthony graduated from Howard University and began her career as a publicist for boxing legends, including Spinks, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, and Matthew Saad Muhammad. Over the course of her career, Anthony reported for the New York Daily News.
