Mint Pictures’ Tampa: The Turning Point offers a three-part documentary account of the eight-day standoff that unfolded in August 2001 when an overcrowded Indonesian boat stalled in the Indian Ocean, leading the Captain of a Norwegian freighter MV Tampa and the Australian Prime Minister collide over the fate of 433 asylum seekers. Kriv Stenders directed the series, working with producer Dan Goldberg, series producer Ili Baré, executive producer Craig Graham, ABC commissioning editor Stephen Oliver, and ABC head of documentary and specialist Susie Jones. Tampa: The Turning Point had major production investment from Screen Australia and was financed in association with Screen NSW. It was developed with assistance of the ABC and Screen Australia. Tampa: The Turning Point will premiere on ABC TV on Tuesday, September 1 at 8.30pm, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview from 7am on Wednesday August 26.
