The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority approved Paramount’s $81 billion takeover of Warner Bros.
Britain’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) also decided not to intervene, based on legally-binding commitments from Paramount regarding UK broadcasting and on-demand services.
DCMS will monitor Paramount’s compliance with these guarantees, requiring annual statements from the company.
The merger would combine major content like HBO Max, Harry Potter, CNN, CBS, Top Gun and Paramount+ under one corporate umbrella, affecting significant UK and global assets.
Zoom in: The US Department of Justice has stated its support for the merger, in contrast to the position of some states and industry critics.
