Defence scientist Andrew Hart has received the 2026 Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science for his contribution to Australia’s sovereign rocket propulsion capability. The award, Defence’s highest individual scientific honour, recognises Hart’s work over more than a decade with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) in advancing sovereign defence capabilities. The award also recognises Hart’s role in strengthening Australia’s defence industrial base through partnerships with Australian industry and translating Defence science into practical national capability. Since 1988, the Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science has recognised scientific and technological excellence within Defence Science and Technology Group. The internationally recognised biannual award highlights the role of Defence science in delivering capability, preparedness and strategic advantage for Australia.
