District officials provided an update to the school board Thursday night, announcing that field turf installation at the Stadium of Champions began that morning. Director of Facilities Trevor Herndon said contractors completed laser grading of the stone base at the stadium before rolling out the turf. The soccer field is nearly complete, with most of the turf already installed. Although work remains, district officials believe the stadium will be ready for the opening football game on August 21. To keep the project on schedule, Hitchell said crews have requested permission to work after dark under the stadium lights.
