South Korean police have raided the headquarters of Starbucks Korea as law enforcement launches an investigation into the company’s controversial "Tank Day" marketing campaign, which sparked intense national outrage.
In a statement sent to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Starbucks Korea said an investigative authority conducted a search and seizure on Wednesday.
The controversy began when Starbucks Korea unveiled a promotion for its "Tank" line of tumblers, featuring the tagline: "Put it on the table with a sound of 'Tak!'".
Following an internal investigation, Shinsegae Group concluded that while the historical connections were unintentional, both the planning team and upper management failed to recognise the insensitivity.
Meanwhile, Starbucks Global also issued an official statement, expressing remorse and promising systemic changes across its global operations.
