‘Handloom has become our source of income’: Himachal’s Sharan village weavers celebrate revival of traditional craftNew Delhi: The handloom sector in Himachal Pradesh’s Sharan village has witnessed a significant transformation since the village was declared a Handloom Village by the Union Ministry of Textiles in 2020, creating new livelihood opportunities for local artisans, particularly women, while helping preserve the region’s traditional weaving heritage. Since the handloom building was set up and we got this shop, we have started making shawls, stoles, pattus, and other products for sale. Another artisan highlighted how the craft has been passed down through generations and how government support has helped expand employment. “Handloom weaving has been a part of our family for generations. Today, many women are earning through handloom weaving while carrying forward our traditional craft,” the artisan said.
