They don’t want you to think about the sales tax and other consumption taxes that inevitably will rise if this amendment passes. It’s easier for them to do this because sales taxes are less visible to people. When I graduated from Center Point High School in 1980, the sales tax was 3 percent. The top income tax rate, on the other hand, has been slashed by more than 70 percent since then. All this new amendment would do is set the table for a future sales tax increase.
