A 44-year-old Florida man faces first-degree murder charges after authorities said he killed and dismembered his 71-year-old stepfather, leaving the remains in three suitcases along a road. Jose L. Proano was arrested Wednesday in the death of Jorge Vazquez-Escutia, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators were also contacted by a woman and friends of Proano who said Proano admitted to beating and killing his stepfather. Jose L. Proano (OCSO)“He has had ongoing problems with Jorge Vazquez-Escutia and thoughts that Jorge Vazquez-Escutia [was] abandoning his mother… and preventing him from accessing his mother,” detectives wrote in an affidavit. “There are no outstanding suspects, and there is no threat to the community,” the sheriff’s office said.
