Bolton police to tackle knife crime with amnesty bins in town centre
['Maddie Avery']
The Bolton News | News
The Bolton town centre neighbourhood team will be deploying a knife amnesty bin at several locations over the coming weeks, giving members of the public a safe and anonymous way to surrender knives without fear of prosecution.
Officers say the initiative is designed to remove potentially dangerous weapons from the community while providing a simple and secure method of disposal.
Anyone handing in a knife is advised to wrap the blade safely in cardboard, secure it with tape, and place it inside an opaque bag before travelling to the amnesty bin location.
Police say people can simply approach the amnesty bin, deposit the knife, and leave, helping to make the community safer.
The events form part of wider efforts to reduce knife crime and encourage responsible disposal of bladed articles that may no longer be needed.
