The trial heard how Crowder had invited Mr Cox, who had been a talented artist and musician before his difficulties, to stay with him at his flat on Barton Walk. With Mr Cox under his control, Crowder repeatedly stole payments he received from the Department for Work and Pensions to fund his own drug habit. He closed the case by paying tribute to those who had helped Mr Cox during his life and who worked on the investigation after his death.
