An Edinburg man with an extensive criminal history will spend more than 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug and weapons charges. Alvaro Salinas Jr., 45, received a 140-month federal prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Contraband discoveryDuring the arrest, law enforcement discovered a firearm concealed within the driver's side door panel, within Salinas's reach. Due to his multiple prior felony convictions, federal law prohibits Salinas from possessing firearms. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation, with assistance from the Pharr Police Department.
