An inquest into Mr Seabrook’s death heard the pensioner, who had dementia, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, was given anti-psychotic drugs which should not have been taken simultaneously.
Mr Seabrook’s condition deteriorated and he was re-admitted to Colchester Hospital a week later after contracting pneumonia.
Essex County Council later conducted a safeguarding inquiry into the trust which runs Colchester Hospital after concerns were raised by Mr Seabrook’s family.
“Mr Seabrook was prescribed two anti-psychotic medications concurrently for several weeks – this occurred despite prior clinical advice one of these medications should have been discontinued.
The inquest was due to finish on Thursday, but was adjourned for a further hearing next Friday so Dr Thines Karunakaran – consultant gastroenterologist at Colchester Hospital – can give evidence after he returns from holiday.
