Heatwave keeps high street footfall under pressure in July

High street footfall declined 3.8% year on year in July, improving from a 6.2% decline in June.
Retail parks recorded the strongest performance, with footfall increasing 1.2% year on year, compared with a 0.3% decline in June.
Meanwhile, shopping centre footfall fell 1.4% year on year during the month, an improvement on the 2.5% decline recorded in June.
Across the UK, Scotland recorded the strongest footfall growth, increasing 2.7% year on year in July, followed by Northern Ireland with growth of 2.6%.
Helen Dickinson, chief executive of the British Retail Consortium (BRC), said: “The heatwave continued to bear down on retail footfall in July, with high streets worst affected.
