Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing copper wires after officers pulled them over for driving a car with an unreadable license plate, the Santa Monica Police Department said Thursday. Then, the officers found burglar tools as well as 10 feet of heavy gauge copper wire, police said. Hernandez's passenger, 41-year-old Cristian Alberto Portillo, had an outstanding felony warrant from Ventura County for grand theft and criminal conspiracy, the Santa Monica PD explained. The two suspects are facing a number of possible charges, including possession of burglary tools, theft of copper wire, possession of stolen property and criminal conspiracy.
