Since the arrival of the first refugees in 2021, the Government of Benin, supported by United Nations agencies and development partners, has worked closely with host communities to provide protection, essential services, and opportunities for displaced families to rebuild their lives with dignity. In partnership with the government, multiple United Nations agencies have coordinated humanitarian assistance, delivering financial support and strengthening protection for refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities through a unified response. Alongside emergency assistance, partners are investing in long-term resilience by promoting livelihoods, food security, and self-reliance. Cash assistance programmes, livelihood projects, market gardening initiatives, and food production activities are helping refugees and host communities generate income and restore economic independence. The coordinated response highlights the importance of sustained collaboration between the Government of Benin, United Nations agencies, development partners, and local communities.
